Taste of Kingston | Farm Girl Food

Kingston's gourmet food truck, dubbed Betty Lou by Farm Girl Mobile Food Co. is back into full force starting today in City Park from 11:30-2:30. Tamara and Peter Bolger have had quite the successful year serving up high quality comfort food with a seasonal twist and they are ready for another exciting season. Adopting the farm to table, though in this case farm to truck concept, this passionate duo has been creating innovative dishes prepared with love and local ingredients. Connecting with the Kingston community over social media and multiple media appearances within the early stages of development, the Bolgers created a hype around Farm Girl with a marvellous executed marketing campaign and the response was astounding. Fast forward one year and Farm Girl is known throughout Kingston and beyond.

Tamara offers unique fare and educates Kingstonians on healthy living through her dishes. With each bite, burst of flavours and freshness are experienced. Seasonal cooking and local produce are key to what makes Farm Girl stand out.

Rogers iOS7 Learning Session Google+ Hangout

It's Tech Week on the blog and yesterday I posted my impressions on the iPhone 5s, so it only made sense to share this Google+ Hangout with Amit and Stephanie of Rogers and the Rogers Social Insider's team as we talked about iOS7 a few months ago.

Impressions | iPhone 5s

An iPhone is a blogger's best friend, especially the iPhone 5s. It is sleek, light, fits in the palm of our hands and matches any of our outfits. Thanks to the Rogers Social Insider program, I got the chance to test out this nifty phone, which is a considerable upgrade from my current phone, the original iPhone 4 from 2010.

With the amazing amount of technology packed into this smartphone, it is not surprising that its performance is brilliant with an A7 chip with 64-bit architecture. This phone boasts with a faster processor, vastly improved camera, ultrafast LTE and fingerprint identity sensor for security.

The two features that stood out:

The Camera

With more details, greater dynamic range and less overall noise, the iPhone 5s having the same 8 megapixels, is deemed to have a faster aperture and a bigger sensor. The new features include auto image stabilization, slow motion (120 frames per second) and burst mode (10 shots per second). The one item that I truly was thrilled about, was the better low light capabilities and two tone flash that recognizes lighting condition and uses white and amber flashes.

As for the Camera application in iOS 7, it gives you more ways to capture your favourite moments from the above mentioned to square, still, panorama and video shooting formats. Several filters are also available at a swipe of a finger to get that Instagram feel. Leave it up to your imagination!

Touch ID

This smartphone comes with a fancy dandy, you would say Bond like feature to unlock your phone. Apple has made it easier and faster to get into your phone without the hassle of entering a passcode each time with a new fingerprint identity sensor. It is as simple as placing your finger on the Home button and voila, your iPhone unlocks. It's a rather convenient and highly secure way to access you phone as this method can also be used when purchasing items from the iTunes Store or App Store. Better yet, Touch ID allows you to have multiple fingerprints registered.

As a blogger, I enjoyed the time I had with the iPhone 5s and it has made me want to upgrade to it! It only took me three years to do, then again I am the type of person to use something until it is literally broken or non functional. So I'm a happy camper, who knew it would take this techie this long.

March Love in a Box Blogger Swap

This month I took part in something new I had never done before and that is a Blogger Swap! The concept is each month bloggers sign up and are paired up with another blogger and swap boxes full of goodies, with a price limit of course.

It is somewhat exciting and meeting new people is always fun in my books. The hardest part though I think is picking out items that the other person would actually enjoy. So I decided to pick out items that I would like and introduce the other blogger to something they would not have bought normally. This March I was paired with Dolce of My Daily Sweet. So let's put this out there, I am not a hug make up gal and I've literally had the same make up and face cleansing routine for five plus years, not lying! So when I received the package from Dolce it was such a delight. Inside my package I found Pandora's Eyes mascara in black, a Proactive Solution Refining Mask - Combination Therapy and a Bath & Body Works Antibacterial Hand Gel in scent Pink Sugarplum.

I can't wait to start using these products!

{Blogger Swap from Dolce of My Daily Sweet}

Visit Dolce's blog to see what I got her and say hi!

Think this sounds like fun? Try it out!

Maple in the County

The month of March is synonymous to the sweet and smokey flavours of maple syrup. In the Prince Edward County, it signifies the celebration of the first harvest and the arrival of spring. Maple in the County taking place March 21-23, 2014 is the time for you to take in the culinary creations and offerings of such a Maple Syrup Festival.

 Enjoy a dose of syrup at breakfast before heading to one of the 10 sugar bushes for sugar shack demonstrations, sugar bush tours, or maple taffy. With lots of activities for the whole family such as petting zoos and live music, don't forget to stop by one of the many wineries as well.

Last year was my first experience of Maple in the County and I will certainly be visiting again this year. The day started bright and early as I drove from Kingston. The first stop was Waupoos Estate Winery where I learnt about their process of tapping maple syrup, saw some oh so cute farm animals and had a scrumptious breakfast. The next stop took us up the road at County Cider Company for tastings of maple infused crepes and cider overlooking the region. Filled bellies and bags of maple syrup, iced wine and cider in hand, the day ended at Black River Cheese browsing the shop and indulging in maple cheddar cheese and maple ice cream!

We shall see where I will end up this year. Perhaps Three Dog Winery, Rosehall Run Vineyards and Fifty Town Artisan Cheese Company? Who knows! If you have suggestions, please do let me know!

Project Red Charity Fashion Show 2014

This past weekend, student-run organization Project Red at my alma mater hosted their annual Charity Fashion Show as a way to promote healthy living while raising funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. I had the chance to attend on behalf of one of the sponsors and was quite delighted with the production. This year's theme was Verve - emphasizing the enthusiasm and spirit in artwork. The fashion show displayed the individually and creativity of Queen's students who were ultimately devoted to a common goal. Models strutted their stuff and talented dancers performed all for a good cause raising $15,500 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation!

25th Birthday Recap

This past Friday I celebrated my twenty fifth birthday and as usual, it was a low key affair. I honestly could have had afternoon tea with a few friends and be quite content. Call me an old gal, but my wishlist in the future consists of owning an antique tea set. That said, I am not the type of person to have the spotlight put on me on special occasions, so an evening dinner with good friends and good company is my cup of tea!

A few snapshots of the day and of course it would be filled with delicious food as well as cravings that had to me met:

{Macaron Birthday Card}

{Edible Arrangements}

Basically the only dish I will order at Jack Astor's, it simply is just too great!
