A Day in Prince Edward County

Ever have the feeling of being overwhelmed with work and need to simply unplug?

Well look no further than a weekend getaway or day trip to the charming community of Prince Edward County just a few hours aways from Toronto and Montreal. This picturesque gem has much to offer with award-winning wineries, stunning beaches, art studios, quaint farm stands along the road, exceptional eateries and the laid-back feel that is sure to have you unwind in no time. This is the perfect road trip this season - you won't regret it!

Check out my recent adventure to the County and snapshots of my go-to spots:

Picnic Food Truck + Rosehall Run Winery

The first stop along our Prince Edward County adventure led us to the Picnic Food Truck at Rosehall Run Winery - a food truck offering picnic style lunches using the freshest, local produce and artisanal ingredients with a focus on healthy and tasty. Be sure to try their sandwiches, charcuterie & cheese plates, and let's not forget their donut holes!

Fried Pickerel Sandwich
Local Pickerel with tarter, creamy coleslaw and spicy mayo.

Double tap - hearts all around! Instagram DUH!

A big plus is that all Picnic meals are prepared to complement a wide selection of award-winning County wines crafted by Winemaker Dan Sullivan of Rosehall Run Winery.

Norman Hardie Vineyard & Winery

This establishment has been around for over 10+ years and is hands down a must-stop in the County! Indulge in wood-fired thin crust pizza with a glass of wine on their patio overlooking the vineyard.

Don't forget to visit the tasting bar on the second level!

Drake Devonshire

The Drake Devonshire is a new addition to the County with its boutique feel on the lake. Located in Wellington, get your appetites ready as Chef Matt DeMille is sure to delight with his offerings of farm fresh and lake-to-table concepts with a classic twist. The Drake is much more than just culinary artistry - it is location to sip a glass of your favourite County wine and enjoy good company.

Barley Days Brewery

Barley Days Brewery is all about crafting exceptional beer and it's no wonder why we had to turn our engines off at this location. Upon arrival, we were offered samples but we then discovered The Eye of the Beeramid, a Kombucha infused beer - a collaboration between Alex Currie of Pyramid Ferments and Brett French of Barley Days Brewery. This is where I raise my glass to an amazing brainchild of a product!

Photo Diary | Marine Barracks Washington at Fort Henry

A long standing tradition, the relationship between the Marines from Marine Barracks Washington,  D.C., and the Fort Henry Guard dates back to 1954. The two units have paraded together countless times both at the Fort and at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. It was a pleasure to have them back in Kingston, Ontario this past summer!

A few snap shots from the night's performance:

Taste of Kingston | Memorial Centre Farmers' Market

I'm all about supporting my adoptive hometown of Kingston, especially when it comes to locally grown products and this past weekend I discovered the Memorial Centre Farmers' Market. The question I ask myself now is - why did I wait this long? Goodness gracious I should have been all over this market from day one especially since it is all producer-run. What does that mean? All products are grown and produced in the Kingston 'foodshed' – within about 100km of the market.

This hidden gem in the heart of Kingston is filled with excitement, friendly faces and a sense of belonging. It is such a quaint market that brings the community together with fresh local products as well as live music, yoga, food demos and kid activities. It's a Sunday adventure for everyone to enjoy!

p.s. you have to try the hot sticky buns from Long Road Eco Farm!
