Lovely Tablescapes

The one thing I simply enjoy about the start of summer is the desire to be outdoors and having meals up at the cottage during the weekends or in my case, down by the lake in Kingston as way to celebrate the season. However, I am not sure what makes me go crazy over lovely tablescapes, but I cannot resist pretty dishes, fresh flowers and being creative. In my opinion, tablescapes during the summer are all about celebrating the beauty of your surroundings with loved ones over a warm and inviting meal weather you are inside or outside.

REALIZATIONS...

If he’s not fighting to pursue you, he’s definitely not worth waiting around for… (Love you Katie!)
If you need to cry, just go for it because bottling up your emotions will just lead to more problems…
Remember all the great times you’ve had with loved ones because they won’t always be around…
Not everything is meant to be shared with friends, a girl needs her secrets too…
Always be there for your friends, when she needs you…
Saying something is always better than saying nothing…
Telling somebody can make a difference…
Don’t let others bring you down…
Don’t sweat the small things…
I’m done playing games…
Do not ever be a victim…
There’s always a way out…
Life is filled with surprises…
Live, Learn and Laugh…

Gotta Share!

As a Youtube addict like myself, I stumbled upon the video above entitled “Gotta Share,” a surprise musical that was put together by Improv Everywhere at the GEL Conference in New York. As a lover of sharing information, I thought it would neat to share this video. Get it?? I thought it was funny. Anyway who doesn’t love spontaneous musicals, I want to applaud everyone who was involved because it was by far the best musical they’ve done and the best mission in a long time. Moreover what better place to stage it than at the GEL Conference, an annual conference exploring good experience in all its forms – in art, business, technology, society, and life. (Note that the speaker is founder Mark Hurst!) However, what I enjoy about GEL is that it brings together ideas, experiences, and thought leaders from many disciplines instead of focusing on just one thing - design, technology, user experience, business - like many conferences. Back to the video, it made me smile and it looked like they all had a fantastic time doing it. Good work! Hope to see more missions like this in the future!

Melanoma Awareness Month

May is Melanoma Awareness Month, an entire month dedicated to helping spread awareness about this deadly form of skin cancer. As this issue affects so many women our age, I thought it was important to dedicate a post to melanoma awareness.

The video above entitled “Dear 16-Year-Old-Me” was filmed to help spread awareness of the risks of melanoma and how to be cautious when it comes to your skin. It’s worth watching. It features a series of melanoma survivors, as well as family members and friends of those of did not survive. It is a story about their experiences and what can be done to prevent this type of skin cancer. This video has touched me emotionally and hit close to home. Melanoma does not discriminate and nobody is immune. Those with this disease fight a tough battle for many years, eventually losing themselves and then their lives. Skin cancer can be prevented and many people will survive melanoma if caught early.
While some people are at greater risk of getting melanoma than others, this is a disease that we should all be aware of. The reason for this is simply because, while enjoying the summer sun may feel nice, the UV rays are harmful to your skin, i.e. the radiation can bring on melanoma and other types of skin cancer. This is the harsh reality of exposing your skin to the sun and worse, tanning beds. However, those with fairer skin and lighter hair and eyes are at an increased risk of developing melanoma. But please note that all skin types are still susceptible to melanoma!

So I encourage all of you to spread the word and to protect your skin, because sun exposure plays a large role in the development of melanoma and long term damage to your skin, there are many ways to reduce your exposure to UV rays – stay out of tanning beds, wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun. Then again, I know we are young and want to enjoy the warm summer weather, but please be safe and protect your skin. Ultimately, sunscreen is one of the best beauty products you can use!

Information from The Skin Cancer Foundation

So this summer keep a close eye on your skin and keep track of those moles!  Thus instead follow the motto, which was the inspiration for the Go With You Own Glow campaign for The Skin Cancer Foundation that ‘radiant skin is the new beauty ideal.’ This campaign featured a series of color print ads that appealed to people to stop tanning. Going on, according to a group of fashion and beauty insiders, ‘the tanned look is no longer fashionable. The tides have turned and those in the know are going with their own glow.’ As a person who does not enjoy tanning very much, this is incredible new because young people are primarily influenced by magazines and beauty ads. Therefore, news that Beauty Directors such as Jane Larkworthy, of W have had a change in view about exposure to UV rays is a pleasant change and surprise. It is about time that the fashion industry had a say in this issue as it is a large one. ‘Tanning is undesirable – it’s not fashionable or healthy and therefore obsolete as a lifestyle.’ And I must agree. A woman is most beautiful when she has that natural, glowing healthy skin.

So as a final message, please love and protect your skin! Get informed! Visit the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund’s website or The Skin Cancer Foundation's website to get more information.

A Layer of Luxury

Today’s wallpaper patterns are bold, diverse in design and highly artistic, incorporating eye-catching elements such as metallic finishes, large scale damask prints and even whole murals. Bold wallpaper can be fabulous in small spaces such as powder rooms or even in an entire living room, dining room, or bedroom. Its designs and colors will create fashionable interior design statements for your living spaces or simply add that extra dimension of coziness to a space.

Happy Mother’s Day

Image from A Bloom in Time

As a child you walked before me,
To lead by example.
As a teenager you walked behind me
Looking out for my back
and being there when I needed you.
As an adult you walk beside me
So that, as two friends,
we can enjoy life together.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom

White All Over

White rooms are simply divine and elegant. They can be bold, chic, and minimal but in the end what ties a room together, is the creative use of modern decor and the right accessories.
