Get ready Kingston! An exciting adventure down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland Escape Rooms & Board Game Lounge awaits as this completely family-friendly space based on nostalgic stories and fairytales is now open!

Wonderland Escape Rooms & Board Game Lounge - Kingston, Ontario To Do
Designed by Melissa Eapen and Emma Rochon, the young creative brains of the ever so popular Improbable Escapes that first opened in downtown Kingston in 2015, Wonderland is your chance to roll the dice and play some board games, both new and old from Unstable Unicorns and Exploding Kittens to childhood favourites such as Game of Life. Hang on a second, since the makers of Improbable Escapes specialize in escapes rooms, you bet there's one at this location with more to come in the future! And let me tell you, it's pretty amazing especially from the level of detail to the storyline - I won't reveal too much but it involves a bad apple. So I'll leave that one with you to figure out. 😉

"Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, do do, do, do..."

So, loyal escapees gather up your most competitive crew with a diversity of unique thinkers, of course, so you have all your bases covered and get ready to get your game on! Did I mention there's a lounge as well? Craving a mid-day snack or need your daily caffeine fix? They've got you covered but with a unique twist. There's also plenty of savoury goods to be served, warm bevies such as lattes to keep your energy up and my personal favourite, wine along with local craft beer! Yup, they are fully licensed as well. Did that catch your attention? Whether you're seeking a family adventure out, date night or get together with your pals, hop on over to Wonderland.

New Indian Restaurant: Namaste Kingston

Fact: I'm Indian (unless that wasn't obvious already) and I'm a first-generation Canadian.

So when I found out there was going to be a new Indian restaurant in town, I was excited. I put a call out on Twitter to my foodie friends for lunch and well one thing lead to another. But why was I uber excited? Well having lived in Kingston for more than ten years now, I honestly haven't found an Indian restaurant that fits my taste buds. Sounds odd I know but when it comes to Indian food, it isn't a one size fits all.  With different regions and cultures, comes different flavours.

Kingston from my experience has focused on predominantly a mix of Northern and Eastern Indian cuisine, which leaves Southern Indian food largely (and sadly) unexplored by the majority. Thankfully Namaste Kingston, a new restaurant that opened it's doors on Ontario Street right by Confederation Park this weekend offers a blend of both worlds with Chef Kumar presiding over the kitchen. It is a mix of fine dining and a casual sit down spot, where the menu takes you on a journey of India through vibrant flavour profiles with dishes like dosa (rice crepe), biryani (mixed rice dish), paneer (soft cheese), thali, curries and of course Indian desserts such as gulab jamun.

"A respectful and customary Hindu greeting. Namaste is usually spoken with a slight bow and hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to the chest."

Let's finally chat about the food! Our table ordered a variety of dishes and the overall consensus was unanimous - delicious and flavourful. As we started our journey to food coma with hot towels and lemon water, complimentary papadum was served at the beginning. We dove right in. A few of us ordered refreshing glasses of mango lassi and as we perused anxiously trying to figure out what we wanted, my decision was quite easy. I had been craving a rich and creamy (not sweet! as most other Kingston restaurants serve) butter chicken with fresh naan and it surpassed my expectations. From the chunks of tender chicken in a thick savoury gravy perfect for dipping into with the naan that was crispy yet a bit flaky on the outside and soft on the inside.

As a restaurant that just opened, they certainly had every detail covered. The look and feel of the space was amazing, the servers wore traditional black saris lined with gold trim which were a very nice touch, they had takeout menus ready and even had their social channels up and running. Overall, thumbs up on Namaste Kingston. It is definitely a must-visit and I'll be returning very soon with a few other foodie friends to sample more items on their menu. If this is your first time trying an Indian restaurant, I'd recommend getting a thali (bento box style) to sample different items on their menu and perfect for sharing if you're looking to get more dishes or starters.
