Cheers to Summer Drink Days

Bring on the bathing suits, ice cream cones and tan lines - your favourite season is here! With summer coming into full swing, we’re all scrambling to stay cool while exploring. The Canada Day long weekend is fast approaching and it's the perfect time to celebrate with a drink in hand.

My drink of choice: McCafé Premium Roast Iced Coffee

With the daily grind of work and play, iced coffee certainly keeps me going all day with a refreshing boost of energy and at $1 a pop - you see why I am treating myself.

Cheers to Summer Drink Days

There are plenty of things to smile about this summer. Whether you are soaking up the sun at an outdoor music festival, enjoying warm summer nights watching movies under the stars or perhaps working into the night - grab your summer drink of choice from a real fruit smoothie to iced frappés and take a moment to unwind and celebrate the highlight of your day thanks to a McCafé drink.

This summer I'll be on a mission to discover new gems in my adoptive hometown of Kingston, Ontario. From unique alleyways to picturesque trails, I'll be sporting my new accessory - a McCafé iced coffee! You never know what you'll stumble upon like this street art tucked away behind a building.

Cheers to McDonalds Canada for sponsoring this post!

Let's Get Cheesy: Edition 2017

Camera ✔️ Foodie partner-in-crime ✔️ Road trip ✔️

The annual Great Canadian Cheese Festival returned to the Crystal Palace for two days of cheesy goodness on June 3rd and 4th. Passionate cheesemakers and artisans alike gathered upon Prince Edward County where Canada's best featured more than 150 cheeses from across the nation - melted fondue, cheese wheels, gooey curds and water buffalo cheese, there was plenty of cheesy delights on offer.

Guests also enjoyed their sweet and savoury items with a variety of beverages, including wine, craft beer as well as cider, and even a Canadian favourite - Caesars. Talking about all things Canadian, chef Jamie Kennedy served up fries and braised-beef poutine. On a sweet note, desserts such as chocolates and coffee were also available to end off the event.

Regardless of your cheese preference there was no shortage of food to satisfy the huge crowds that funnelled through all weekend long. The cheese festival drew thousands of visitors, both locally and from major hot spots such as Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal!

As one of the largest artisan cheese shows in North America, the Great Canadian Cheese Festival has certainly earned its title. As a regular attendee, it was been quite amazing to see the growth of this event over the past seven years since its conception in 2011.

Local Favourites

MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Company, Three Dog Winery, Kingston Olive Oil Company, Seed to Sausage, Nick Allison Charcuterie Boards and lastly Wilton Cheese Factory.

Unique Additions

Deep friend cheese curds by Burger Revoltuion, cheesecake in a jar by The Cheesecakery Bakery and delicious local artisan cheese fondues by 1001 Fondues.

Ontario Water Buffalo Company

Sneak peek at my cheese haul:

Award Wining Canadian Cheeses

Cows Creamery of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island was the reigning champion this weekend. In 2006, the company branched out and began producing cheese. Cow’s cheesemaker, Armand Bernard, has proven the cheese factory is no side business – his Extra Old Cheddar and Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar have won rave reviews and awards from the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix and the American Cheese Society, with Avonlea taking the Cheese Of The Year Award in 2016 at the Canadian Cheese Awards.

Highlight of the Day

Deep friend cheese curds by Belleville's favourite joint - Burger Revolution!

What tickles my fancy about cheese?

The texture, smell and colour!

See you next year cheeseheads in Picton from June 2rd-3rd, 2018!
