Inspiration2Women

Yesterday I got the chance to attend Inspiration2Women, an event hosted in Kingston to celebrate women in business, entrepreneurship and corporate leadership. Participating in this event goes along with Sheryl Sandberg's whole lean in movement and I find it fabulous that women can gather in one spot and be inspired. Inspiration2Women had lovely ladies from Gail Vaz-Oxlade (Financial Guru), Susan Sly (Health and Wellness Expert), Catriona Le May Doan (Canadian Olympian), Sarah Richardson (Expert Designer) and the funny one herself, Deborah Kimmett. All keynote speakers had one thing in common, that was the true desire to inspire and help other women with their tips and advice to succeed in all aspects of life, professional and personal.

After finding out about Levo League, a community designed to provide Gen Y women with advice, resources, mentorship and career opportunities to successfully navigate their lives, I really wanted to find an event or other like minded individuals in the Kingston area who shared the same values. With Inspiration2Women, just that happened. While most of the crowd was older (a vast majority!), I still enjoyed the event with the company of my work colleagues.

This day long event taught women to invest in themselves and take the time to embrace what they can accomplish. Gail shared that knowledge and experience are assets compared to having an education at times. This truly shows that if you are self taught or passionate enough to go for something on your own, that you can achieve your goals. Catriona mentioned that success is not defined by possessions or objects but rather by how you have come to reach your aspirations and dreams. Embracing your goals and not being afraid to ask for help to reach that next step is nothing to be ashamed or shy about. Obstacles can be surpassed and learning to accept failure if they arise is something to rise upon. This leads to what Sarah Richardson had said about making the most of your opportunities because as this may sound cliche, you only live once and it's true. You may as well enjoy and be grateful for what you have but also do what you love by empowering yourself to thrive and grow. This will resonate onto others if working for a company or part of a team. Sarah shared so many useful tips that I will definitely be applying to my daily routine. The top three I walked away with are:

Leverage what you know
----
Use your career as an adventure
----
Know your point of advantages and differences
----

The overall message that was conveyed by these women was to be true to yourself and appreciate what you have accomplished but use your goals to mark your successes. You ultimately define who you are and you shouldn't let anyone tell you otherwise. Most importantly, you must find the balance and not give up. Be heard and lean in to achieve your full potential!

Enjoy!

Girls Night In

Time to relax with the girls with a night in! Pop a chick flick in and spend the evening watching movies with people who appreciate the power of a love story and a good cry. Apparently good friendships literally make you healthier!

So why not complete the night with some juicy gossip, facials, manicures and yummy treats.

Pretty Party

When you throw a party, you should go all out. The theme of pink, gold and everything glittery in between is girly to the max and oh so perfect. My perfect party would be an afternoon of bubbly, giggly indulgence and nibbling on sweet treats. Plus, ruffles, giant balloons and feminine details are so my style!

The Fashion Formula

So if you don't live by this formula by now, you should definitely take a look at it. With this perfect solution, it's an easy way to create an amazing outfit. This is extremely helpful in the morning when you are rummaging through your closet to find something to wear and let me tell you, it works!

It makes your outfit look effortless and appear that you aren't trying too hard. When your closet is filled with quality pieces, it makes life so much easier instead of fumbling with clothes that are outdated or simply trendy now. This rule also applies when you go shopping because remember it's quality over quantity!

Good luck fashionistas!

Preppy in Pink

Hot pink is pretty flattering on most women and while it may have been quite popular this past autumn, I say it can be worn all year round especially in the summer. Adding a little colour to a plain wardrobe can really spice things up and a vivid hue of pink could be the start. A good rule of thumb is to stick to one pop of colour in your outfit when it comes to bold ones. While it is feminine and preppy, I feel every woman should at least own one piece of item in the colour especially hot pink!

Along with hot pink this season, cobalt blue, orange and bright greens can be added to the list of other summer colours this season.

Visual Style

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
This reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw and lately I have been watching The Carrie Diaries as a guilty pleasure, the prequel to Sex and the City. It provides the beginnings of Carrie's theatrical, over the top style and how she came to be. She was not afraid to wear what she wanted and wore it proudly, as it expressed who she was and where she wanted to go in life. Finding your own sense of style is about getting to know yourself, showing off your personality and being confident.

Once you're happy with what you're wearing, it creates a sense of individuality and will radiate on to others as well as attract like minded people.

Wardrobe Essential: Trench

So winter is apparently upon us with the temperatures dropping and Mother Nature gracing us with ice pellets and rain. But in my mind it's spring. I will not accept the fact that flurries are in the forecast. So while I may have worn my winter coat again the past two day, I am crossing my fingers that next week the sun will be shining and birds will be chirping. However, as it is April it will obviously rain so what better way to be prepared and stylish then to sport a trench coat.

This light versatile overcoat still remains a timeless item that every woman should own. It is an investment that worn over any outfit, simply spruces it up! With today's fashion, there are so many variations of this classic coat. Its clean tailored shape makes it suitable for any body shape and waist cinching belt brings everything together!

I adore wearing my version of a trench coat with a warm scarf and knee high boots! You can never be too prepared for the weather!

Leopard Print

Less is more in my opinion and this applies to leopard print. Applying it in small doses is best and pairing it with simple outfits will highlight the item worn. The key to wearing this bold print is to never overdo it.

But...

Colour clashing with vibrant colours that stand out is quite achievable with leopard. Bright shades of orange, sapphire blues, emerald greens and pinks are great matches. It is all up to you and whether you opt for a casual, romantic or classic look.

How do you wear leopard?

Ray Ban

Everyone needs sunglasses and should invest in a good pair. The downside is that when people go shopping for a new pair of sunglasses, they often only think about how good their glasses are and if they flatter their face. While this makes perfect sense, that shouldn't be the main reason. Sunglasses are primarily suppose to protect your eyes and not wearing them can actually have prolonged consequences.

I actually realized that sunglasses are more than a look and should protect your eyes. So after some research, I've come to the conclusion that my reward for May will be a pair of Ray Ban aviator sunglasses. I've been so busy and haven't taken time to enjoy life lately that I have come up with this method where I reward myself for working hard and saving most of my money. Finally I will protect my  vision from those UV rays and not rely on 'cheap' stylish glasses that don't last more than one summer!

What will you reward yourself with this month?

April Showers

It's raining it's pouring the old man is snoring...you know how it
goes...

Well long story short, cross your fingers that we will not be
blessed with April showers! Okay, I may take that back as
several items in the world require all this rain. On the bright
side, the one aspect of rain that I can tolerate are the cute
accessories that I can sport around (along with spring flowers).
First of them being my Hunters and my Columbia jacket,
which has omni-shield advanced repellency (rain runs off
the coat). But... after I saw this monogrammed rain coat on
Etsy, it just made me want to get it and make it my April
reward.

What will you be wearing when the droplets of rain commence?

Happy Spring

When it comes to spring, all I can think of are bright bold colours and pastels. Being one of my favorite seasons, I am ready for it to make a more prominent appearance. The snow here is slowly melting away and I'm very excited to pull out my spring scarves, lighter jackets and nail polishes. The one downfall of raising temperatures are the April showers that will most definitely commence here in Kingston.

The top three so called trends that I am looking forward to are florals, coloured pants and dainty accessories. On top of this, I'm excited to wear my blazers and I'm not talking about those plain black traditional ones, but vibrant pastel colored with some cute scarves when it's chiller.
