Roll down your windows, cue up the playlists and hit highway #2 this Canada Day for a quaint road trip to Gananoque, Ontario along the St. Lawrence river. Less than 30 minutes away from Kingston, this adventure is scenic, iconic and offers exciting stops along the way. This day trip won't break the bank and great for families as well. So pack up the car, get on the road and make some memories together at the following spots:
1. Gananoque RibFest
It's Canada Day long weekend and what better way than to get down and finger lickin' dirty, with ribs and bbq sauce. With free admission, the festival is back and will not disappoints your taste buds at Town Hall Park. Ribbers throughout North America - Jack The Ribber, Route 55 BBQ Team, Smokehouse Bandits, Crabby's BBQ Shack - are serving up amazingness on the grill that will fill your stomachs with the most flavoursome ribs, chicken and pulled pork.
So remember to bring cash and those wet naps, 'cause this festival is bound to get your hands plenty sticky and messy family style.
2. Gananoque Brewing Company
This year the local brewery has introduced a fabulous new addition to its establishment - it goes by the name of a Beer Garden where surprisingly outside food is more than welcome. So whether you've visited The Socialist Pig next door or Gananoque Ribfest, this is the perfect next stop for a pint of craft beer. You won't regret it and will be wanting more.
3. Nature's Tonic
A new addition to King St this summer, Nature's Tonic dedicates itself to their passion of creating products with love of Mother Earth. As a juice bar, they offer smoothies, kombucha, supplements and a wide variety of holistic products. I highly recommend the Beau Rivage Exlixir filled with fruity goodness - apples, cranberry juice, beet cherry, honey and banana! So if you're looking for something a bit more up the health route, this is the spot for you!
4. Little Pump House
Let your inner artist shine at the Little Pump House located just a few steps away from the Gananoque Brewing Company. This shop contains beautiful work of local artists and crafts people, so why not bring a piece of Gananoque back home with you.
5. Steel Style Garage
End the day with a bit of retail therapy at one of my favourite store in Gananoque. If you're looking for a unique shopping experience, Steel is your go-to boutique offering the most stylish yet cool vibe apparel from Mink Pink, Volcom, Roxy and the list goes on! While the clothes and accessories are the spotlight, the building it is located within is one to be admired as well with old beams, posts and restored and re-purposed items.
Gananoque is filled with wonderful hang out spots especially by the waterfront, so don't forget to take a stroll down by the boats or hop on a cruise tour! Craving some foodie delights at the end of your journey? Then stop by Riva Restaurant on your way out for an exceptional local meal.
Happy Canada Day!
-xoxo
