Hello 2019

I believe I said this last year but 2018 simply put, I blinked my eyes and woosh, 365 days later, 2019 is here. What a sweet, amazing, busy and adventurous year it has been. Though it was filled with many ups and downs I could swear a decade has gone by. I've realized how fast time flies by and how important it is to cherish every small moment. The memories we make are so important, as it's crazy how one day can differ from another in a couple of months. 2018 allowed me to learn new things about work-life balance, but it also taught me how to be happy with life, and enjoy it as it is.  Sometimes I overthink the smallest things, but at the end of the day, I'm blessed and thankful for everything I've got from my fiancée, family, friends, work peers and everything in between.

As for 2019, it will be a year of smashing goals and as always I'm sharing a few:

1. Work-Life Balance + Self-Care

This isn't so much blogging related but with a day job that involves working with social media, it's hard to fully disconnect and having a partner who understands your role is important. Let's just say social media never sleeps and taking a vacation is the hardest thing when you're a one-person team. But in 2019, I'm dedicated to using my vacation days fully and unplugging.

There was a time where I juggled a full-time job, a part-time job, the blog, and freelance gigs - you could say I was a workaholic though I enjoyed it all and was passionate about learning new thing. I seemed to balance it all.

BUT,

I've had to remind myself that it's okay to take time out for myself. Too often we are pressured into thinking that spending more time working or being busy is important. Well, screw that. You are allowed to have off days where you are completely lazy still in your PJs and watching Netflix. And as an introvert at heart, I LOVE a lot of quiet time alone as it allows me to recharge.

2. New Adventures and More Travel

I'll keep this one nice and short. As second-year homeowners, bae and I have honestly become such homebodies. We've been enjoying the amenities of a spacious backyard, our dog and cooking more meals at home aka the kitchen which is what sold us on the house. With that being said, I'm hoping 2019 allows me to re-discover my own city. With a few trips already planned for the year, I'm looking forward to reviving the Staycationer in me and document my journies with you all!

3. Going Back to My Roots of Food Blogging

2018 left me slightly unmotivated and uninspired in a world of comparison on social media. I know I said I wouldn't let it get to me, but with the nonstop scrolling on Instagram and the perfectly curated feeds, it simply left me in a sour mood. After getting hooked to Gary Vaynerchuk's Youtube videos, he made a valid point that completely changed my mindset for 2019,

"Don't lay all your eggs in one basket."

In other words, stop focusing on one platform and spread the love everywhere. I realized I spent way too much time on Instagram overthinking everything I was going to post especially writing out captions. This made me dread posting on the platform BUT if you're a long time reader, you'll know that the blog was my number one passion and the past two years it fell to the wayside. 2019 WILL be the year where I go back to my roots of food blogging from sharing my favourite recipes, restaurant reviews and of course my favourite mac n cheese dishes when traveling.

As for the whole Instagram thing, it'll take me a few months to adjust or maybe take a break from it?

4. Finances

This is something I know a lots couples don't like chatting about but one of my personal goals for bae and I in 2019 is to get on track to pay off our mortgage. With only this form of debt on my side, I have made it my priority to budget and take baby steps to pay it down as quickly as we can. This is all thanks to discovering and learning new tips from #debtfreecommunity on Instagram as well as following the account @savinghalfourincome. I'm actually really excited about this journey and am taking the chance to soak up everything I learn. For example, paying extra principal payments (up to a maximum) biweekly and doing lump sum payments on our mortgage anniversary (since our bank allows it,) will shave off years and interest!

So the personal finance geek in me, I'm ready to get a plan in place for 2019 and work out how we can get to that paid off mortgage goal faster.
