The Marans Dinebar in the County

The Marans Dinebar in the County

The Marans Dinebar in Prince Edward County - Picton

The Marans Dinebar in Prince Edward County - Picton

It's been a good few weeks or so since my last blog post and I'm not sorry but that's because I actually took some time off for a slight digital detox from both my day job and blogging. But I will say that it's no surprise that during this time that my foodie partner-in-crime and I ventured to Prince Edward County (once again of course) for a day trip for lunch to visit Picton's newest dining experience - The Marans Dinebar.

Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Chef Guerin Sykes previously helped revamp the kitchens at Waupoos Winery before taking the leap and opening up his own venture. Featuring Middle Eastern with Asian inspired cuisine, this new spot by Chef Guerin and his wife Jessica puts the emphasis on locally sourced ingredients and all things County including their drink menu. Located right between the Regent Theatre and Picton Library on Main Street in Picton, you wouldn't believe it, but it doesn't have a full commercial kitchen! With only a few induction burners and other equipment, Chef Guerin creates flavourful dishes with such freshness and efficiency, might I add. As comes with small spaces, also comes creative thinking, being wise in how you cook and operate, which means the menu rotates and keeps you guessing every few months.

Scroll down to have a peek at some of the dishes we enjoyed:

DEVILED EGGS

Vibrant, savoury pickled eggs, whipped filling with salted caviar.

MUSHROOM GNOCCHI

Puffy gnocchi in a savoury, creamy sauce with mushrooms and caramelized onions.

LEMON CURD CRÈME BRULÉE

This one is pretty self-explanatory.

The decor was right up my alley of farmhouse chic with cute accents all around.

La Condesa: The County Meets Mexican Cuisine

La Condesa: The County Meets Mexican Cuisine

Things are getting spicy in the County aka Prince Edward County. There's a new spot in Wellington where if you're craving delicious authentic Mexican cuisine, then look no further than La Condesa. Having only been open for a few days, I had to immediately add this gem to my foodie bucket list after scrolling through my Instagram feed. Yup, that's how I find cool new spots and share with you all - gotta love social media.

La Condesa - Prince Edward County

The moment you walk into this Mexican eatery, it gives off a lively vibe with a combination of vibrant decor and feel-good atmosphere. They do an amazing job showcasing the fresh bold flavours that represent true Mexican cuisine and culture but also offers a menu full of locally sourced items and a 100% County wine list.

This new hidden gem is must when visiting the area and chef Sam Valdivia, a native of Mexico and previously Chef at Parsons Brewing Company, has brought a taste of her homeland to Wellington, Ontario with mouth-watering dishes such as queso fundido, enchiladas, tinga tostada, ceviche, and the list goes on.

As my foodie partner in crime and I savoured each bite as we dined for lunch, we'd simply smile and nod in agreement that the food was worth the drive. From the freshly made fish taco with crispy fried County catch perch, cabbage, chipotle, aioli and pico to the perfect watermelon rosé sangria - this spot is now being added to our favourites list for the summer. And if mouth-watering tacos weren't enough, their enchiladas mixcas de picadillo aka rolled tortilla stuffed with stewed local ground beef, topped with cheese, salsa roja and salsa verde was delicious.

Scroll down to have a peek at some of the best tacos I've had in a while.

How to Spend a Girls Getaway in Prince Edward County

Here are my go-to spots in the County to have a blast with the gals:

THE JUNE MOTEL

A true girls weekend in the County starts by booking a stay at the gorgeous June motel.

NORMAN HARDIE WINERY

A visit to the County isn't complete without stopping by Norman Hardie - enjoy a glass of their signature Riesling (my personal fav) paired with a wood-oven pizza.

THE DRAKE DEVONSHIRE

If you're familiar with The Drake in Toronto, the Drake Devonshire is the more laid back version that borders the picturesque Lake Ontario. It is here that you will find dishes using homegrown ingredients with a flavourful rustic twist.

From an outdoor patio to a rustic environment, Parsons has a laid back ambiance with a stellar combination of delicious authentic food and great beer. A visit to this brewery calls for their authentic Mexican tacos alongside a pint. They're filled with pure goodness - sorry vegans and vegetarians, this isn't for you! From roasted chicken tacos in a tangy tomatillo sauce to carnitas tacos with confit and slow-cooked Ontario pork and hints of citrus and cilantro!

OAK CLOTHING CO.

If you're looking for classic quality pieces, Oak Clothing Co. is the spot for you. Catering to both men and women, Oak Clothing is tucked away like a hidden treasure in the town of Wellington up a set of stairs where you'll find a manicured collection of brands you'd normally find in the big city - my favourites include Mink Pink, Cheap Monday and Levis.

Where: 291 Main St, Wellington, ON

THE JUNE MOTEL

This dream getaway is everything you could imagine and more. Bonus: it's Insta-worthy as heck! The June Motel is a new fabulous edition to Prince Edward County and is nothing but basic - filled with an eclectic mix of vintage pieces and feminine touches, this boutique motel is a must. DRAKE DEVONSHIRE

Bordering the picturesque Lake Ontario within the charming Prince Edward County, the Drake Devonshire is the place to eat, drink and be merry. This cozy lakeside hot spot is artistically vibrant and amazingly draws inspiration from the local community while staying true to its contemporary counterpart in Toronto.

p.s. the food is top notch thanks to chef Matt DeMille and the drinks are refreshing with a variety of local picks. It is a journey well worthwhile full of scrumptious memories to be had!

Where: 24 Wharf St, Wellington, ON

Rabbit Carbonara

BONUS:

SAND & RAW PEARL RAW BAR

If you're an oyster fan then let's get drivin' because this place serves up fresh seafood dishes from both sides of the coast. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is chill with a dash of fancy.  If you haven't visited this new spot in the County then get your booty shaking.
