QueensU Science Formal

This past weekend on November 2nd, 2013, the 111th Queen's University Science Formal took place at Grant Hall with this year's theme being Alice in Wonderland. With a rough budget of $80,000 and one year to plan, Science Formal is a highly anticipated event for most Engineering students. For some this event brings friendships closer, heightens their undergraduate experience or simply marks the ending of four great years.

]
Sounds fine and dandy but there's a catch to attend Science Formal, each individual of the graduating year which tallies to over 600 students must complete 40 hours of work for the event along with a hefty price tag, oh and let's not mention school work!

Let's break it down if you were a girl:

Dress = $200-300
Hair/Makeup  = $100
Accessories = $100
Dinner = $50
Ticket = $120
Guest Ticket = $140

I am Sci'12 but chose not to attend my Science Formal and do not regret it one bit. With a major wake up call summer before fourth year, going to a dance was not at the top of my priority list. Some of my friends whom I thought I was close to grew distant. So I buried myself in school work, created an actual support system for myself and began blogging, which obviously could not have counted for reduction of work time for Science Formal as it is decided on case by case basis and most generally given to students in need. I wasn't going to bother with this or pay for $10 for every hour not completed.

But enough about me, the same day as Science Formal, there was an open house for the public where by entry was by donation to the United Way. My going was for the love of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!

Here are some pictures I snapped during my walk through:

Enjoy!
